Wild Color by Wendy

The first time an artist called me an artist, I laughed.

“You’re the artist!” I said. “I just sling paint…”

It started like this:

When my kids were born, I designed their birth announcements. My oldest’s was evidence I had no idea what I was doing. My youngest’s showed I’d learned a few things. 😄

People started paying me to design pieces for them, and occasionally my living room was covered with all sorts of papery goods.

In 2009, I started a service called Adopted by Design to help families raise money for adoption fees. I made cookbooks, t-shirts, stationery, and more.

In 2011, I started licensing some of my work to retailers. In the process I learned a lot about royalty agreements, contract negotiation, rights, terms of use, and more.

Along the way, I taught myself how to paintor rather sling paint.😊

Here’s a secret:

Anyone can do it.

(Try it, it’s fun!)

My art has brought many opportunities into my life… licensing deals, speaking gigs, workshops, opportunities to coach other artists about business, a showing, magazine publication, commissions…

And a lot of joy.

It’s been an interesting and unexpected journey…

Occasionally I’ll run private workshops for people who want to learn how to make abstract art. No, I don’t have a website, but you can contact me for more info!
