WILD COLOR by Wendy

It was a terribly designed birth announcement that evolved into a business licensing art…

It was for my firstborn, in 2005.

Sorry Isaac! :-)

I wasn’t an artist - one required semester of art as a kid in 8th grade was the extent of my experience.

However, by the time my second son was born, I’d not only improved my skills, but people started paying me to design pieces for them.

I was in the deep end of building my agency. Much of that work was technical, so the creativity was an outlet.

In 2009, I started a small ministry called Adopted by Design. I made cookbooks, t-shirts, stationery, and more for people to sell in order to raise money for their adoption fees.

In 2011, I started licensing some of my designs to retailers. I learned quickly about royalty agreements, rights, negotiation, terms of use, and more.

By 2021, my work had grossed nearly $1B for just one of my clients.

Over the years, I learned how to paint - or rather sling paint, as I like to think of it.

Art brought many opportunities into my life:

Licensing, speaking gigs, workshops, opportunities to coach other artists in their businesses, a showing for a brand new Sola Salon franchise opening, a Greencraft magazine publication, commissions…

It was an interesting and unexpected journey.

As much as I enjoyed the work, I genuinely loved helping people solve their business problems more.

So… I put my art on the back burner. I still have products on the market, but no longer license new work.

For now anyway… you ever know what the future holds.

Occasionally I’ll run private workshops for people who want to make abstract art.

You can see some of my art on Instagram.
